My absolute favorite sugar cookie recipe. The perfect dough for cut out sugar cookies!
Makes about 24 cookies depending on cookie cutter shapes and sizes
Ingredients:
3 CUPS ALL-PURPOSE FLOUR PLUS MORE FOR ROLLING
2 TSP. ALUMINUM-FREE BAKING POWDER
1 CUP 2 STICKS SALTED BUTTER, AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
1 CUP SUGAR
1 LARGE EGG
1 TSP. PURE VANILLA EXTRACT
1 TSP. PURE ALMOND EXTRACT
Instructions:
Beat butter and sugar for about 1 min.
Add in flour and baking powder to mixture. Do not over mix. Mixture should form into a ball. It should be soft not sticky.
Wrap dough into a piece of plastic wrap and flatten out dough into a 1 inch disk. Refrigerate for 10 min before rolling.
Preheat oven to 375
Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface. About 1/4 of an inch thick. Adding more flour as needed to prevent dough from sticking.
Once you have your desired cut out shapes place on cookie sheet on middle rack for 7-8 min until cookies puff up. Cool cookies before frosting.
Buttercream Frosting Recipe:
2 sticks of butter
1 cup margarine (helps the frosting to set up on cookies)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
3 TBSP whole milk
2 pounds powdered sugar
this recipe makes a lot of frosting so that you can make a variety of different colors to Frost your cookies with.
Mix all ingredients together adding the milk in last. Separate into bowls and add food coloring of choice. Put into piping bags and frost away!
